My Akai MPK Mini MKII Controller Review
About AkaiProfessional
Company Details
Akai Professional was found in 1984.
They only had one purpose - to give artists in the electronic music industry the tools they need to express, explore and discover new musical possibilities to share with the world.
My Initial Thoughts
Getting the best of both worlds is not something you can easily find in the music market.
When I first saw this product, I have to say that I was excited to try it.
It looks as if it will make all my musical dreams come true because the options seem endless.
Often you have to choose between a keyboard and a pad.
However, Akai MPK Mini MKII gives me both options at a reasonable price.
Here is some information if you want to know more about its features and how it works.

Feel, Specifications, Dimensions, and Integrations
This device comes with 25 keys that are highly sensitive to your fingertips.
You do not have to jam your fingers in them - just lightly touch them, and the device will acknowledge it.
The pads are just like the keys - velocity-sensitive.
They also light up when you are using them, although the colors are not that interesting.
You get eight knobs which you can use to control and adjust the sounds, and there is also a neat interface that connects and communicates with your computer.
You can use Mac or PC for this device.
It comes with an arpeggiator, ten octaves, and four programs, so there are multiple options and combinations you can choose from.
Furthermore, they added a mod joystick as well and a button that repeats previously played notes.
What’s great about this product is that you do not need a power adapter to use it.
It uses USB power, and there is a standard USB jack on it.
When it comes to its size, this might be the lightest keyboard/pad I have ever used.
It weighs 1.65 lbs or just over half a kilo, so I can actually bring it anywhere.
This is also a compact model which you can put almost anywhere you would like.
The measurements are 12.5" x 7.13" x 1.75" - quite decent for a product that has multiple functions.
I am happy to say that the design and the build are high-quality.
The size may fool you at first, so you might think it would be an excellent gift for a younger music enthusiast.
However, I love the fact that it fits anywhere.
You can easily bring it with you to the studio, or even use it at home with your laptop.
Advanced Features and Performance
The fact that there is no power supply might bother some, but for me, this is an advantage.
I can just plug it in and start working right away, without any hassle.
It is integrated with VIP, so you get access to many virtual instruments and effects.
This works seamlessly with the device, and I found that it is quite user-friendly as well.
It did not take long to figure out how to use it, and later on, it proved to be quite useful as well.
Akai MPK Mini MKII feels pleasant to the touch, and it is an efficient device to use if you are frequently making sounds and clips.
The design is rather intuitive, and there are no drawbacks.
The user-friendly interface makes it a fantastic option for beginners as well, and professionals can use it too.
It is a powerful tool for the studio if you need something practical for everyday use.
The manufacturer tried to listen to its customers, so they enhanced the previous design and came up with something entirely new on the market.
They also made it easier for customers to find best production softwares for it - they come with the device when you buy it.
Overall, it is a solid build, and it doesn't feel like it would break anytime soon.
However, given the fact that it is so lightweight, it might be a good idea to get a pouch for it, so that you do not have to worry about destroying it.
Probably the best part of this product is the VIP integration.
I love the fact that I have everything at a hand’s reach, and that the sound collection is so vast that I can hardly decide which ones to use.
But, do not think that there is an artificial sound to them. Even though it might seem at some point, you can easily adjust it.

At first glance, it did not seem promising. Still, once I started using it more, I finally understood why it’s so popular.
It is a beginner friendly keyboard/pad that you can use anywhere you go.
This is the part of it I love the most - you can bring it to a coffee shop and work from there.
You do not have to worry about the power supply, and there are no limits to how much you can use it on a daily basis.
It is a neat device to keep in your studio or to use on the go, no matter how important you are in the music world.
And, the prices ties everything together nicely, so it is a fantastic value for money.
