My Initial Thoughts

Casio WK-6500 is a nice intermediate level keyboard and workstation.

It comes with a bunch of features that will allow you to play and record any type of music.

It works great as a personal keyboard for practicing and playing around and it’s a decent keyboard for band practice and performance.

Feel, Specifications, Dimensions, and Integrations

Casio WK-6500 comes with 76 piano-style, standard sized keys.

In my opinion, this is the perfect size if you are looking for a portable piano that still has a decent range (6 octaves in this case).

This digital piano is 47 inches long and it weighs 17.4 so it’s not too heavy to carry around.

Even though it has 2 built-in speakers, as one would expect from a personal piano for home use, Casio WK-6500 is completely suitable to be used for gigs.

It’s equipped with a USB port, a sustain jack, a phones jack, two line out jacks.

Furthermore, it has an audio in jack and a microphone jack for a dynamic microphone.

The selection of tones and voices on this synthesizer is also very good.

It comes with 670 built-in tones, ranging from classic grand piano sounds to almost any genre you can imagine.

Furthermore, Casio WK-6500 allows you to edit the parameters of the sounds, like attack and release time, so you can customize them until you get exactly what you need.

There is also the option of adding your own tones.

Advanced Features and Performance

The system on this machine includes a Rhythm Editor with built-in rhythms, but also the ability to create your own rhythm patterns.

Furthermore, there is a Registration feature that allows you to prepare and store your own live setups.

An LCD screen is definitely needed to control all of this features and Casio WK6500 comes with a nice backlit one.

WK-6500 has 48 polyphony and the sound is mastered by Dual Element AHL system made by Casio.

This is definitely not the most advanced system out there, but it’s definitely enough to satisfy the needs of any intermediate user.

The best thing about Casio WK-6500, in my opinion, is the ability to generate different sounds simultaneously.

This is what really makes it a “workstation” and not just a simple digital keyboard.

With the help of the 16-track sequencer and the 32-channel mixer, you’ll be able to play and record almost anything.

When it comes to recording, you can use an SD card for storage and record up to 5 songs and a total of 30,000 tones.

You can layer different sounds using the sequencer, but you can also record external instruments and use a microphone.

There is also an editing tool with advanced functions such as copy, insert, quantize and step recording.

Pros & Cons of WK-6500

Benefits

The built-in tones can be customized and saved

Advanced recording options

Can be used with Mac or Windows computers without any additional drivers

Drawbacks

The manual can be hard to understand at first when you're learning the piano

Speaker sound quality is not the best

You’ll probably need some time to get used to the spring-loaded keys

My Final Thoughts

With a 16-track sequencer, a 32-channel mixer, advanced editing tools and a huge selection of voices and tones, Casio WK-6500 is full of surprises.

It’s a powerful and flexible machine packed with features.

If you have been using an entry level keyboard and want an affordable upgrade, WK6500 is definitely a good option.
