My Initial Thoughts

The Korg Krome is a professional level keyboard, at a price level that regular consumers can afford.

It comes in three different varieties, depending on the number of keys available.

You can get a Korg Krome with 61, 73, or 88 keys, depending on your needs and personal preference.

In this review, we will be taking a look at all the basic functionality offered by this device, starting from its most basic characteristic, and working our way up toward the more advanced capabilities.

With that in mind, let's get started!

Feel, Specifications, Dimensions, and Integrations

As previously mentioned, this is a keyboard/synthesizer with all the bells and whistles one would expect from a high-end professional model, packaged in such a way that an ambitious amateur will be able to afford it.

The main bulk of the surface on the front panel of the device is taken up by the piano keys.

As we already know, the buyer can choose between three different sizes, but the keys themselves remain the same.

They are made to mimic real piano keys closely for a great feel, and they are pressure sensitive, which means they allow you to express yourself in exactly the way you envisioned.

Directly above this keyboard area is the large color touchscreen.

This is arguably the main characteristic of this synthesizer, and it is the one that sets it apart from others in its price range.

Scattered around the rest of the front panel are the various buttons and dials which help control the sound produced by the keyboard without relying on the touchscreen.

There is also the really neat addition of a joystick which can be assigned to control various parameters in a very precise way, which allows for tactic feedback, as opposed to the controls on the touchscreen.

Advanced Features and Performance

This review is simply too short to list out all of the advanced features offered by this synthesizer, but we will make a brief overview of the various categories these capabilities fall under.

Indeed, it is in vogue to offer the user many categories within which certain effects function and this synthesizer follows that logic as well.

The basic sounds offered by this synthesizer range from simple piano sounds to organs, to orchestral instruments, and even drums.

These are not generated, but rather sampled, which is a benefit for some, and a drawback for others.

The synth capabilities are rather strong, however, and allow for a lot of flexibility and creativity.

The sequencer included in this device is of particular note as well, since it comes jam-packed with features that allow the user to get creative with sounds and textures.

Sampled sounds

My Final Thoughts

The Korg Krome sets the standard for performance and capabilities in its price range, and it is the perfect synthesizer for any live performance, but it doesn’t fail when the composition is concerned either.

With so many options and sounds available, it is very important that you go to your local music shop and try it out for yourself.

In fact, you may spend so long exploring every little detail of the keyboard that they might kick you out!
